And another great album of Haris Lemonopoulos… Listening to him I seem to detect far other influences than “just” greek traditional music - no wonder with his american background! Could it be he also studied his fair share of guitar master’s music?
Get a plate of mezé starters, followed by some mediterranean mixed barbeque accompanied by a bottle of heavy greek wine, put the music on… and then forget about the food!
Sorry again about the poor quality, it’s getting worse!!!

This 1979 recording is probably Afro-experimentalist Vasconcelos’ finest. It presents his various facets—berimbau playing, intricate overlain vocals, fine percussion, even gorgeous guitar—simply and almost overwhelmingly. This is one of those performances that remind one to never let natural dogmatism get too out of hand.. ~John Storm Roberts, AMG

Review by Brian Olewnick
The beautiful cover painting by Mati Klarwein serves as an appropriate visual analogy for the music contained herein: an abutting of two worlds, an insinuating blend of early-‘80s high tech with ancient Southeast Asia. Over varying, non-specific rhythms supplied by Abdou Mboup, Jon Hassell weaves a music both evocative and plaintive, his modified trumpet sighing like an old Javanese horn pulled into the digital age on its way to what he calls a “coffee-colored” future where all ethnic traditions become one. The astonishingly vocal sound he gets from that treated trumpet is certainly one of the signatures of this album and one of the more lovely sounds heard anywhere. His compositions have a bit too much direction and drive to comfortably settle into the term ambient, but they remain as relaxed and gently meandering as a jungle stream. One especially nice feature is the subtle electronic burblings that whisper in the background, creating an enticingly busy sense of space. Aka/Darbari/Java is an early high-water mark at the juncture between world and ambient musics.

Raphaël Faÿs-Extremadura (2009)
Label : Le Chant Du Monde (chez Harmonia Mundi)
Genre Gypsy Swing Jazz Manouche / Flamenco
Date de sortie : 19 novembre 2009
Format Mp3 320 Kbps
Size 81.5 Mo
published by Francis Couvreux
If Raphael Fays had remained some time without saving it is no longer the case since he signed with Song of the World; пїЅExtremaduraпїЅ must be his fifth disc for the label! The guitarist continued his personal exploration of flamenco with fellow travelers closer to this aesthetic, but we would have liked to hear more voices and Alejandro Gimenez Clara Tuleda; Rapha has found the formula if all instrumental and appropriate partners for bring his music: ten original compositions in the tradition (rumba, solea, buleria ...) always serve the song and that sound like classics already (see Ranger rumba or along and inspired theme that alternates Colombiana haunting and peaceful and lightning acceleration). If his amazing technique in this style blossomed fully ignited, the guitarist will not forget the musicality or sense (see his superb solo tribute to Sabicas). After more than 20 years of practicing flamenco, Raphael Fays found his own path, impressing his mark on the music is very codified.
Quite convincing!

Mário Pacheco - Clube de Fado- A Música e a Guitarra (2006)
Label:World Connection
Genre Fado Ethno portugal/ vocal
Title:A Música e a Guitarra (album)
Release date:16-04-2007
Format Mp3 320 Kbps
Size 160. 472 Mo
Video Format Vob
Size 12 x &00 Mo ~
The confident, and absorbing guitar and compositions of Mário Pacheco are not accidental. They reflect his special dedication to, commitment to, and caring for the art of music, particularly Fado, founded on a familiar tradition.
The son of the guitar player António Pacheco, who played with some of the best Fado artists, Mário Pacheco soon began unveiling the mysteries of the guitar chords and of the melodic ways of Fado compositions.
This born talent was strengthened and expanded by the study of music theory and classic guitar in the Music Academy of Lisbon.
However, he is most captivated by the Portuguese guitar, the musical instrument, which, in his words, пїЅmost expressively defines FadoпїЅ.
He studies the best guitar players with dedication: Armandinho, Artur Paredes, Carlos Paredes, Pedro Caldeira Cabral, and Fontes Rocha.
ThatпїЅs how he got the foundations, which enabled him to create his own style, both as a guitar player, accompanying the great voices of Amália Rodrigues, Alfredo Marceneiro, Hermínia Silva, Tristão da Silva or Max, with whom his father also played, and, later on, as a composer.
With such a musical background he inevitably got the urge and the inspiration to compose, fully understanding the typical format and harmonies of Fado.
Carlos Zel, Paulo de Carvalho, Ana Sofia Varela, Rodrigo Costa Félix, Mísia,
Joana Amendoeira, Camané, Mariza, and Amália, all interpret his melodies.
In 1992, his first album appears, пїЅUm outro olharпїЅ пїЅ “Another Look” пїЅ seeking to translate the way Mário Pacheco’s music reflects a different vision of nostalgia and of how saudade пїЅ yearning пїЅ and sadness cross their paths, in a harmonious way, opening up to other musical languages, for Fado also expresses and summarizes several other rhythms.
To this album, which is a hallmark in the history of Portuguese music, followed пїЅGuitarras do fadoпїЅ пїЅ “Fado guitars” пїЅ “Cantar AmáliaпїЅ пїЅ “Singing Amália” пїЅ and пїЅGuitarra portuguesaпїЅ пїЅ “Portuguese Guitar”.
The Portuguese guitar, composition, and the Fado environments keep on inspiring him, and guiding his steps.
Meanwhile, Mário Pacheco found a place, in the historical neighborhood of Alfama, next to the secular Cathedral Sé of Lisbon, where he creates a space of reference for Fado, and also dedicated to artistic creation.
He calls it “Clube de Fado”.
In fact, it’s a club for people to meet, chat and exchange ideas in a Fado environment.
In this space where Fado happens every night, tradition is kept.
That’s where Mário Pacheco sails away on a journey with his guitar…
His CD/DVD mirrors a пїЅgetawayпїЅ in the aristocratic environment of The National Palace of Queluz.
In this show, Mário Pacheco recalls his пїЅmastersпїЅ: Carlos Paredes and José Fontes Rocha, composing two instrumental pieces in their tribute, and invites Fado singers to interpret his melodies: Camané, Rodrigo Costa Félix, Ana Sofia Varela and Mariza, four insurmountable names of Fado, as well as the musicians Carlos Manuel Proença (guitar), Rodrigo Serrão (doublebass), Marta Pereira da Costa (Portuguese guitar) and also the string quartet of Arlindo Silva.
It’s a magical setting. The stairs of Robillion, built in 1764, are crossed by emotions, feelings, images of life, Fado happening through the words of poets and in the inspired music and guitar of Mário Pacheco.

Format: FLAC

The Brazilian multi-instrumentalist Egberto Gismonti drew his inspiration for this music from time he spent with the Xingu Indians in the Amazon, and it’s intended to invoke both their spirit and the experience of the jungle. Gismonti assembled some remarkable musicians for this 1977 recording—guitarist Ralph Towner, percussionists Nana Vasconcelos and Collin Walcott, and saxophonist Jan Garbarek—but he uses them sparingly. The opening “Palacio de Pinturas” is a gorgeous duet between Gismonti’s 8-string and Towner’s 12-string guitars, a music so tonally rich that it suggests multiple geographic sources. “Raga,” with Walcott on tabla, is more specific, with Gismonti’s rapid-fire runs suggesting a sitar, but his use of percussive harmonics is a new element. The long final track is a remarkably varied suite. It begins with a light trio that has Garbarek’s only appearance—a keening, soprano-saxophone solo—and includes “Sapain” for an ensemble of blown bottles with voices and wooden flute. Gismonti’s fascination with shifting instrumental colors creates consistently interesting music, combining traditions and sources into a novel musical space. (—Stuart Broomer, amazon.com)

Music of Another Present Era remains Oregon’s most enduring masterwork. Achieving a perfect balance of musical traditions from the East and West, ancient to future, they set the stage not only for a new transculturalism in jazz, but also created a lasting template for the fusion of musics from world traditions that would flower over a decade later. [...] This is fusion music, to be sure, but it’s the kind of fusion musicians have been trying unsuccessfully to emulate for decades. Music of Another Present Era is one of the most poetic and groundbreaking records to be released in the 1970s. —Thom Jurek, All Music Guide
