Sous le nom « Les Gosses de la Rue », se cache un groupe de swing manouche créé en 2004 et composé de cinq musiciens : une contrebasse, deux guitares, un violon et une flûte traversière. Riche d’influences variées allant de Bach à Coltrane, leur répertoire est composé de reprises de Django Reinhardt, de standards du jazz et de la chanson française, de musiques d’Europe de l’Est.

A l’occasion de la préparation de leur second album, les Gosses de la Rue ont privilégié l’écriture de morceaux originaux, résolument swing !
Ils peuvent aisément s’adapter à différents types de manifestations avec la possibilité de déambulation en acoustique.

Insatiables de la scène, les bien nommés Gosses de la Rue arpentent les plateaux bordelais et au delà, toujours en quête de nouvelles rencontres musicales et festives.

Monsieur Melon, c’est d’abord un personnage créé et façonné depuis 10 ans par Mikou, le leader du groupe. Mikou vient de l’école du métro parisien où il a chanté et peaufiné son art entre 2000 et 2004. En 2005, il rencontre des musiciens venus d’horizons différents et monte sur les scènes de caf’ conc’ et enchaîne une moyenne de 70 concerts par an. En 2007, il réalise enfin son premier album : Même en hiver.
Entouré de Marie à la guitare, d’Amine à la contrebasse et de l’excellent Sylvain aux clarinettes et sax, Mikou nous propose ses propres textes évoquant le goût de la route (Graines de nomades) et de la vie de bohême (ßohême d’automne, Chemins de traverse), l’expérience du métro (le métro, titre qu’on a déjà pu entendre en radio) ou des squares parisiens (Le square), les voyages en bateau (Journée en mer) et la métaphore maritime (L’auberge fluviale), et l’amour, bien sûr (Le dessinateur, L’âme sœur).
Si le style très imprégné de swing manouche (pompe et valses…) rappelle immanquablement celui de Sansévérino et des Voleurs de Poule (cf L’auberge fluviale), Monsieur Melon possède sa propre personnalité et pose sur le monde et les gens un regard beaucoup plus attendri et très attachant. Entouré d’une multitude d’invités tous excellent musiciens (violon, accordéon), l’album s’écoute agréablement : les textes sont toujours réjouissants et les musiques souvent festives.
A noter que le prochain album de Monsieur Melon sortira en novembre 2010.

On January 23, 1990, Django Reinhardt would have become 80 years old. Not an exceptional age, and it is tempting to contemplate what kind of music he would have played today - probably not string swing? In any case, the great manouche is not forgotten. On the contrary, it seems that Django Reinhardt, unlike for instance Louis Armstrong and Charlie Parker, is getting his epigones now. Django’s 80th anniversary was celebrated in several ways. In Oslo, the tenth Django Festival was launched, lasting one whole week.

The climax in Oslo was the concert in the beautiful Gamle Logen, where incidentally, Django gave his first and only performance in Norway, 8 February 1939. Fifty years and one day later, by the way, another phenomenal manouche guitarist made his debut there: Angelo Debarre! But on the program now, was a varied menu: The Swedish guitarist Mikael Selander opened the concert together with Hot Club de Norvège. Raya sang with her Norwegian band, the grand veteran guitarist Finn Westbye (born 1914) played solo pieces he had played for Django in 1934, and Nina Csárdás played and danced with the gypsy children. In addition, there was a photo exhibition, a record exchange market, a presentation of gypsy folk costumes, etc. But the main attractions were the two debutants: the Dutch Rosenberg Trio, and Arbat.

It was sensational! Each in their own way, they brought the audience to the boiling point, and beyond. There were many who stated that here, Django would have enjoyed himself.
