release:2009
Time:64:29
Format Mp3 320 Kbps

Release notes:
Pressestimmen
Connect with Tony Lakatos the Hungarian Snétberger origin, the Roma roots, a decades-long friendship and a successful cooperation, such as on Lakatos’ album “Gypsy Colours”. The saxophonist, big band since 1999, a permanent member of the HR is not only a sought-after sideman (Al Foster, Jasper van’t Hof, Wolfgang Haffner and many others), but was with his own albums “recycling” and “The News” in the U.S. Jazz radio placed at the top.

Gismo Graf-Absolutely Gypsy (2010)
Label : Autoproduction
Genre Gypsy wing Jazz Manouche
Date de sortie : 16 novembre 2010
Format Mp3 320 Kbps
Size 192 Mo
Second disc of the young German guitarist Gismo Graf now aged 18, always firmly surrounded (Joschi Dad on guitar accompanying (vocals on two tracks) and veteran Jankeje January on bass), continues the tradition Gismo Musik Deutscher Sinti in a directory with no great surprise: the usual standards (Them There Eyes, Limehouse blues that has perhaps a little too heard), Sweet chorus of Django, the gypsy Tchan Tchou not quite sent or as Angelo Moreno, cuckoo, little theme played in a replay or successful husband GIDL, song books. If the young Gismo has a big technique, his fingers itch a little and it crackles across in a somewhat mechanical (see China boy taken at 100 per hour). Is more convincing when it calms down a bit on Django Festival for example, pretty ballad composition, he signed two other titles more anecdotal Gismo swing pretext for an avalanche of notes and a somewhat convoluted Ninon waltz. If Tony Lakatos sax on 4 tracks and Olaf Polziehn, piano on 3 come somewhat break the monotony of the formula as a trio, We’ve Got A World That Swings, sung in English crooner how to tea dance is somewhat incongruous in the context. If Gismo has some nice flights (see the chorus on Donna Lee), his style still lacks personality. It also expects a little more originality in the tradition of this successful resumption of Destiny Roman theme with guitar-sax in unison followed by questions and answers removed. To follow all the same.

Artist: Charles Lloyd (with Keith Jarrett and Jack DeJohnette)
Album: Forest Flower / Soundtrack
Label: Rhino
Year: 1968
Genre: Jazz, Hard Bop, Post-Bop, Saxophone
Format: FLAC
Time: 77:01
Size: ~394 MB incl. 3 % recovery (4 files); Scans in separate file: ~17 MB
AMG Rating: 5 stars (out of 5) AMG Pick
The reissue combines two live albums, 1967’s Forest Flower: Charles Lloyd at Monterey and 1969’s Soundtrack on one CD. The earlier release was one of the few jazz albums to sell a million copies, and it owed its popularity not only to its suggestions of bohemian romanticism but also to the strength of Lloyd’s writing and to the empathic interplay between the leader and his then-unknown bandmates, pianist Keith Jarrett and drummer Jack DeJohnette. The three recorded the very similar Soundtrack two years later. —Geoffrey Himes, amazon.com

This post is dedicated to the memory of Marion Brown, one of the casualties of 2010, who passed away last October. Here are some extracts from the New York Times article:
Marion Brown, a saxophonist whose lyrical, low-key style made him a distinctive presence in the high-energy jazz avant-garde of the 1960s and ’70s, died Monday in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. He was 79.
His death, in a hospice, was confirmed by his son, Djinji. Mr. Brown had been treated for a variety of illnesses in recent years and had been living in an assisted-living home in Hollywood, Fla.
Mr. Brown, whose main instrument was alto saxophone, was a key figure in the movement that came to be known as free jazz, an approach to improvisation that challenged conventional notions of harmony, rhythm, pitch and pretty much everything else.
He first attracted wide attention as a member of the 11-piece ensemble featured on John Coltrane’s influential and controversial album “Ascension.” That album, recorded in 1965 and released in 1966, signaled Coltrane’s commitment to free jazz and, while it drew as much criticism as praise, helped give legitimacy to what had been largely an underground phenomenon.
By that time Mr. Brown had been participating in the avant-garde for a while, having worked with the tenor saxophonist Archie Shepp (who introduced him to Coltrane), the idiosyncratic pianist and bandleader Sun Ra and other musicians who were pushing the boundaries of jazz. Mr. Brown soon began leading sessions for ESP-Disk, ECM, Impulse and other labels, developing a style as melodic as it was adventurous. ~ Peter Keepnews, New York Times, 24 Oct 2010
