To mark the 100th anniversary of Django Reinhardt, Citel offers us a box video in tribute to Django Reinhardt. The goal is to gather as much information to better understand the life of the great gypsy. Program 4 DVD with 6 videos - including Django Legacy, Paul Paviot film, Children of Django, a story about Patrick Saussois, a concert by the Rosenberg Trio, an interview ... Sanseverino,  6 Django ... Brief heavy!

To achieve this DVD, Alexandre Darmon, a former collaborator of Fanck Hagège, has compiled a selection of outstanding films and often forgotten about the life of Django. Little regret (but really light) damage on this occasion not to have grouped all the available videos of Django.

- The landmark film “Django Reinhardt” (1957)
. This film by Paul Paviot found traces the life of Django through a simple and moving story. For this he will ask the relatives of Django to testify. You can see Joseph Reinhardt, Stephane Grappelli, Babik Reinhardt, Eugene Vees, Alix Combelle ... Yves Montand is who lends his voice to the comments written by Chris Marker.

- The inevitable “Django Legacy” (1997) by John Jeremy
gathering evidence and important portraits of style at a time or few people were talking about gypsy jazz. The best years for the purists. Scenes have become cult especially during festival Samois See previous column. Sacha Distel handles comments. We see Babik Reinhardt, Bireli Lagrene, Stochelo Rosenberg, Jimmy Rosenberg (very small) ... This DVD is no longer available for sale. A good opportunity to (re) discovered!

- “Children of Django” (2006) Patrick Savey
with Romane, Dorado Schmitt, Stephane Grappelli, Boulou and Elios Ferré, Didier Lockwood, David Reinhardt ... Several generations talk about their passion for this music and Django.

- A portrait of Patrick Saussois - The swing gitano “(2002) Patrick Savey
. Movie very endearing, very subtle. A great opportunity to find this musician whose swing is sorely missed today. Unpublished (only released in June 2006 Mezzo).

- The concert “Live in New Morning Rosenberg Trio” (2003)
. Mezzo only available on this little gem in 2006 concert features a virtuoso Stochelo with Mozes Rosenberg asked.

Le but est de regrouper le maximum d’information pour mieux comprendre la vie du génial manouche. Au programme 4 DVD regroupant 6 vidéos - dont Django Legacy, le film de Paul Paviot, Les enfants de Django, un reportage sur Patrick Saussois, un concert du Rosenberg Trio, une interview de Sanseverino…, 1 CD de 19 morceaux de Django, 1 livret historique de 23 pages, 8 photos dont 6 de Django… Bref du lourd !

Pour réaliser ce DVD, Alexandre Darmon, ancien collaborateur de Fanck Hagège, a regroupé une sélection de films marquants et souvent oubliés retraçant la vie de Django. Petit regret (mais vraiment léger) : dommage à cette occasion de ne pas avoir regroupé toutes les vidéos disponibles de Django.

- le film de référence “Django Reinhardt” (1957)
. Ce film introuvable de Paul Paviot retrace la vie de Django à travers un récit sobre et émouvant. Pour cela il va demander aux proches de Django de témoigner. On peut y voir Joseph Reinhardt, Stéphane Grappelli, Babik Reinhardt, Eugène Vées, Alix Combelle… C’est Yves Montand qui prête sa voix aux commentaires écrits par Chris Maker.

- l’incontournable “Django Legacy” (1997) de John Jeremy
regroupant des témoignages et portraits importants du style à un moment ou peu de gens parlaient de jazz manouche. Les meilleures années pour les puristes. Des scènes sont devenues culte notamment lors du festival de Samois, voir chronique précédente. Sacha Distel se charge des commentaires. On y voit Babik Reinhardt, Biréli Lagrène, Stochelo Rosenberg, Jimmy Rosenberg (tout petit)... Ce DVD n’est plus disponible à la vente. Une bonne occasion de le (re)découvrir !

- “Les enfants de Django” (2006) de Patrick Savey
avec Romane, Dorado Schmitt, Stéphane Grappelli, Boulou et Elios Ferré, Didier Lockwood, David Reinhardt… Plusieurs générations parlent de leur passion pour cette musique et pour Django.

- un portrait de “Patrick Saussois - Le swing gitano” (2002) de Patrick Savey
. Film très attachant, tout en subtilité. Une très belle occasion de retrouver ce musicien dont le swing nous manque cruellement aujourd’hui. Inédit (uniquement diffusé en juin 2006 sur Mezzo).

- Le concert “Live in new Morning du Trio Rosenberg” (2003)
. Uniquement diffusé sur Mezzo en 2006 ce petit bijou de concert met en scène un Stochelo virtuose avec Mozes Rosenberg en invité.
